Once Upon A Milkshake
Now you can drink your ice-cream fix

This tiny little milkshake bar has generally been an open secret amongst Office Workers and Office Ladies as a great after-lunch chill out spot. After hearing rave reviews from friends who previously tried it, there was no reason for me to give it a miss. With some spare time on our hands during lunch hour, I grabbed a bunch of friends to accompany me to give Once Upon A Milkshake a try.
A tight but promising menu was presented before us. It made ordering a breeze. Without a doubt, their milkshakes are the stars of the show. There was no reason to order any other items without first trying their milkshakes. Still, with that said, their ice-creams are still the base foundations in building up the milkshakes. I’ll find another chance to test out everything else on the menu, since this time I came with a 3/4 full belly and a lot less cash to spare.
It was a wrong move for me to let a friend decide my flavor of milkshake. 3 milkshakes were ordered, respectively the Chocolate Truffle Castle milkshake, the Fluffy Peanut Butter milkshake and the Spooky Mocha milkshake. I settled with the safest Chocolate Truffle Castle milkshake. With my already full belly, I could only make room for the small cup of milkshake (it was cheaper too for my wallet too).
I could understand why the great reviews after only taking a sip of the milkshake. It was almost like slurping a cup of soft serve ice cream (and perhaps even thicker) rather than the usual slushy milkshakes at other places. Since the foundation of the milkshake is built from their premium ice cream flavors and low-fat milk, the ice cream chosen is the dominant flavor regardless of the addition of any secondary tastes. For example, the Spooky Mocha was created with the use of chocolate ice-cream and coffee but the chocolate still remained as the dominant flavor even though most would expect the coffee flavor to stand out. Hooray for chocoholics, Boo for coffee lovers.
With each small cup of milkshake costing $3.60 and a (larger) regular cup of milkshake costing $5.70 (a 30 cents rise from the previous price). Once Upon A Milkshare is still an affordable chill out option for Office Workers but not really for the cash strapped students. However, I could say that most of the cost of the milkshake is justified from the use of premium ice-creams and rental in high cost CBD areas (they just recently open a new shop in town too).
Other than their flagship store in Maxwell Chambers, one can also enjoy the taste of their milkshake located in the more convinent Scape @ Orchard. For those who are still interested to find out more information about their shops and milkshakes, here’s the website.
PS: For the ongoing YOG events, Once Upon a Milkshake decided to introduce a new limited “Powderful Milosaurus” milkshake which is available from 13th August onwards. Do go ahead and try out!
