Fun and nutiritious snack13 October, 2010 by Yan
It resembles coffee beans, but I can assure you it’s not. For most people, the actual ingredient for this snack is all so familiar, yet the preparation seems very much distant. Guessing this might be a little hard, but I’ll give you a hint. Mugi-pon is a distant relative of the more common popcorn we frequently eat during movies.
These little bean-like snacks are actually toasted barley, which to my surprise none of my friends had seen or even heard of before. Sadly, puffed grains is not something that we interact commonly with in our modern daily lives, with the exception of popcorn that is.
Resembling a texture more toward puffed rice, these toasted barley are reputed to be tastier and more nutritional than the usual popcorn that we snack on. But I guess it takes more than just facts and courage to encourage people to test out something that they are unfamiliar with, yet I think this could be a good alternative to the usual movie snack.
Its rather steep price seems to be the determining factor to deter people from even harboring the thought of testing out a pack. But then comparing the price with popcorn’s (which everybody seems to always fork out without a second thought), the difference doesn’t seem really much.
