Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

22 September, 2008 by

The signs were all in Japanese! The people were all speaking Japanese! The girls were all so cute! We’re in Japan! weeee~ As i walked around, i felt a strange sensation of missing subtitles.

Day 1 of our 14 day adventure in the land of the rising sun. Follow the journey as we head from Singapore to Narita by plane, then to Tokyo and Kyoto on train.

Some first impressions after touchdown :

The People
Apart from being so darned cute, the service people here are incredibly friendly. From the moment you enter the store to your purchase, to when you leave the store, they got every step covered. Amazing. And it’s not just at airports. It’s Everywhere! How come we don’t have such nice service culture back home? xD

The Weather
Yes everyone i know asked about the weather, so here it is, it’s about 18 to 27 degrees. It gets hot in the afternoon, but it’s not as humid. Early mornings and nights are cold! The winds can get really chilly. The sun rises really early. Even at 6.30am the sky is already bright. It’s completely dark at about 7pm.

Corporate people are, Corporate
I’ve not seen a corporate guy here without a suit and tie yet. The ladies too. All completely formal. Maybe it’s considered improper to dress without a suit?

Yes here comes the photos :

At Terminal 3, close to the boarding gate of the A380, 11:30pm flight to Narita Airport.

IMG 1073 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

They have internet terminals for use while you're waiting. Cool neh.

IMG 1075 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

On the A380, it's not a lot of leg space, but the Krisflyer entertainment system more than makes up for it. Tons of stuff to watch and listen.

IMG 1080 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Wilson K.O'ed. I fell asleep halfway through 'Chronicles of Narnia'.

IMG 1085 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

IMG 1107 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

It's not confusing, the station has 5 levels, nope.

IMG 1108 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Bought our first 'microwaved' lunch. Going to be a 3 hour ride to Kyoto.
First experience with the service culture here as well. Super friendly!

IMG 1109 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Instantly got lost the moment we reached their 'control station'.
Too many tracks. Which one to take?

IMG 1114 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Eventually found our way to the right track. Bullet trains!

IMG 1115 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Yeap, the HIKARI 411 to Shin Osaka. Notice the ladies in pink?

IMG 1118 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Pink ladies get to work turning all the seats to face the other direction.

IMG 1123 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

There it is, Kyoto. 11:33am.

IMG 1125 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Reserved seats! Check out the ample leg space.

IMG 1130 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Tokyo City whizzing by.

IMG 1135 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Started to settle down with our lunch. Had tomato rice and some horrible black coffee. xD

IMG 1138 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Act like the train too fast. Lolz.

IMG 1140 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

The urban areas start to become wide landscapes the closer we get to Kyoto.

IMG 1146 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

IMG 1170 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Got out eventually. Went to look for a map at the visitor centre. No luck.

IMG 1172 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Outside the station. Finally we were out in the open. Been underground since we landed.

wondering where our hotel was hidden.

IMG 1181 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Found it in the end. Ikoi no ie!

IMG 1192 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

There was internet access in the room.

IMG 1226 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

Bought tickets to go up the tower.

IMG 1227 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

It's nice to get photos of the tickets for reference at the end of the trip.

IMG 1231 Kyoto Autumn 2008 Day 1

You can view these things free of charge.
Unlike the ones at Sentosa where you have to put coins.
