This year’s necessary bikini-ridden summer song18 May, 2011 by Chad
Everyday, Kachuusha (Everyday、カチューシャ), AKB48’s 21st major single will be out next week on 25th May 2011. Like past releases this time of the year, Everyday, Kachuusha is a upbeat feel-good pop song in time for the summer season.
This time, an expanded selections of 26 members were chosen for the single all of whom have suspiciously had experience posing in bikinis.
Sure enough, Everyday, Kachuusha (which literally translates as Everyday, Hairband) doesn’t stray far from last year’s hair accessory themed song. The familiar senbatsu faces are joined by Oota Aika, Kuramochi Asuka, Kikuchi Ayaka, Komori Mika, Sato Sumire, Masuda Yuka and Yokoyama Yui. With it being Yokoyama Yui’s first time as a senbatsu member.
The single also marks Kikuchi Ayaka’s return to the senbatsu lineup single being fired in 2008 and Masuda Yuka’s first appearance since BINGO!, which featured almost all of the AKB48 members at the time. Everyday, Kachuusha also signals the inevitable introduction of two girls from sister group NMB48, Yamamoto Sayaka and Watanabe Miyuki.
Motohiro Katsuyuki who helmed Udon, Summer Time Machine Blues and more recently the Security Police (SP) series was invited to direct the single’s promotional music video. The girls were flown to Guam once again for a bikini-ridden summer themed adventure.
It doesn’t take long (if you ignore the pointlessly draggy introduction) for most to realize that the PV concept for Everyday, Kachuusha is pretty much just a spoof of their past videos. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of Motohiro’s dry sense of humor and it might be a little too presumptuous to pull off such a themewhen AKB48 is just finding acceptance in the mainstream, but many fans will definitely enjoy being able to spot the references to their other recent singles.
The title single appears as the theme song for starring Maeda Atsuko and Minegishi Minami
In some ways, Everyday, Kachuusha appears to be a double A side. All copies of the CD come with second track, Korekara Wonderland (これからWonderland) that features a more familiar senbatsu cast. The song was used in the humorous series of television commercials for Wonda coffee featuring AKB48.
Type A versions of the CD will come with Yankee Soul, the theme song for the second season of Majisuka Gakuen as a third track. B Type versions will feature the Undergirls song Hito no Chikara instead. A theater girls song is absent from the single, with most of the remaining members fitting into the Undergirls. Finally, the theater version will include all the above songs with the additional Anti, performed by the Kenkyuusei.
The covers for all five versions.
