During my second trip down to the River Hong Bao 2010 festival we saw these crafts that I would have otherwise missed if not for Yan. These are figures were handcrafted from dough. An artist from China was specifically brought for the event and he was making them on the spot.
This was one of the few stalls featuring authentic Chinese crafts at the fair. Despite being made from flour, the incredible amount of detail on each figure puts most anime figurines to shame.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to find out the cost for this full display. Based on the fact that individual figures less than half the size of the ones pictured here were being sold for $50 each, I believe a display like this would easily cover the artist’s return flight home.
