A perfect spot to just chill out11 September, 2010 by Chad
Chili’s Grill & Bar is an American casual restaurant serving Texas Mexican inspired dishes. It’s a pretty old franchise that pulled out of Singapore years ago. Chili’s made its return to the country late last year at Tanglin Mall. We recently visited a newer branch at Resorts World Sentosa, the second of the four Singapore branches that the management plan to open by 2011.
I had a hard time choosing from their wide menu since everything looked huge. We had just had a late lunch and this was to be an early dinner so we planned to get something light. It was a little intimidating to see the giant portions being served at the adjacent tables.
In the end we ordered a couple of starters to share the Skillet Queso and Tostada Chips ($8.80) and the Big Mouth Bites ($19.90), two of their signature dishes. We also opted for their free flow of drinks, which cost only $5.80.
At first sight, their prices might seem a little higher than normal. However the stated prices were all inclusive of extra charges, something more local establishments ought to implement. I’ll also emphasize that the servings were absolutely huge (at least for now).
When eating out, it is rare for the actual dishes to look nearly as good as the menu. But the food at Chili’s was one of those rare cases (you can see their menu here).
The Skillet Queso was basically a panned mix of beef and cheese, it came with unlimited supply of Tostada Chips, Chili’s trademarked tortilla chips. Both the chips and the drip were awesome.
Big Mouth Bites was a giant bacon and cheese burger served with sauteed onions. Between just the chips and burger we were stuffed.
They brought over a manager from America to ensure quality service. After having adjusted to Singapore service standards, we were a little taken aback by how incredibly friendly she was. She went from table to table to make sure that everyone was enjoying their meal. Under her guidance, the waitering was spot on and we never saw the bottom of our drink glass.
It was definitely a positive experience so I know where I’ll be headed next time I need a tortilla chip fix. Can’t fathom how I could possibly finish their mains but will try returning again when really hungry. I’m looking forward to trying their Fajita in particular.
