As is common every year, AKB48 has once again released the Sousenkyo appeal videos. These are short snippets that the girls can use as campaign videos. Numbering over 250 videos in total, these are worth checking out, if only to see your favourites. The listing can be seen on the official Sousenkyo site.
The Tokyo Auto Salon 2013 has announced the lineup of visiting AKB48 members. The following 16 members will be performing next Saturday on 13th April at the Tokyo Auto Salon in the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center and meeting fans on both the 12th and 13th.
In an announcement on the blog earlier today, it’s known now that the AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo will be held this year, but with a slight change. In the voting for the new single (slated for an August release), members will have to register to be in the Senbatsu Sousenkyo. Eligible candidates include current AKB48 and its Japanese sister group members, the ex-AKB48 transferees (Miyazawa Sae, Takajo Aki, Suzuki Mariya and Nakagawa Haruka) and as a surprise, ex-members who have had a part in AKB48 for at least a length of 4 years as well. Members will have a week-long period to register their interest, and voting will commence on May 21st. In a first, the results will be announced at the AKB48 Super Festival held in Nissan Stadium.
After more than a year of absence, the largest Japanese pop idol girl group AKB48 will be making an appearance back in Singapore next month. The group’s local agency contacted us a while ago to let us know that some exciting news was looming and today they’ve confirmed that AKB48 will be performing at the Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013.
The motorshow will take place from 12-14 April Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. More details will be made available soon. But from what we received, AKB48 will be appearing on multiple days within the convention area, so you will just need a entry ticket to view the show. Additionally online ticket holders can redeem limited priority tickets on a first come first serve basis on the days of the event itself. Tickets are available online.
For the first time Sony has decided to slash prices of its PlayStation Vita systems in Japan. Since its launch in December 2011, the Vita has seen poor public reception. Sony hopes to urge along sales with this dramatic price reduction. Starting February 28th, both the Vita’s 3G/Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only versions will retail at just 19,980 yen (approximately SGD$260), down from 29,980 and 24,980 yen respectively.
Sony has also took this opportunity to re-announce the upcoming release of many high profile titles on the Vita including the mass multi-player online game Phantasy Star Online 2 which will be begin service on the same day as the price cut, and the eagerly awaited Soul Sacrifice on 7th March.
The manga department of CoFesta (Japan Contents Festival) is holding a Manga Festival in Singapore running from 15th to 17th February. The collective, which includes publishers such as Kadokawa and Kodansha, hopes to boost the publishing industry in Singapore and the region. The festival will comprise of lectures, a public forum as well as a manga exhibition at the Arts House. More information can be found at the festival’s official website.
Good news Tokyo Girls’ Style fans. Avex’s 5 member dance and vocal unit will be coming down to Singapore this week! The group will be making an appearance as Takashimaya Square Ngee Ann City in Orchard Road for a short performance this Friday and Saturday, the 5th and 6th October 2012. Tokyo Joshiryu will be acting as representatives to promote J-Pop in Singapore as part of Japan Travel Fair 2012. TGS fans, do come down to show your support and perhaps urge them to return for bigger things!
In the first day of the monumental AKB48 Tokyo Dome concerts, it has been announced that AKB48 will undergo a re-shuffle in its team compositions. The last time the group has shuffled its members between teams was in 2009; 2012′s shuffle also sees recently established Team 4 disbanding and the members moved into the current 3 teams of A, K and B.
In an earlier than expected expansion, JKT48 is looking for more members to fill its roster as second generation members. The South-east Asian sister group of AKB48 has opened auditions, with the initial stage lasting from 13 August to 31 August. Girls aged 13 to 18 are eligible to apply, with the condition that applicants would need to be based in Indonesia, and are open to work in the city of Jakarta. It was only a matter of time, but it has been confirmed that Bandai Namco will be releasing a new title in AKB1/48 series of PlayStation Portable video games. Titled AKB1/153: Renai Sousenkyou (AKB1/153: 恋愛総選挙 / AKB1/153: Love General Election), the third title of the series will finally add members from AKB48′s sister groups SKE48, NMB48 and the most recent HKT48. The game will feature all new content and is scheduled for a year end release on December 20th 2012.
Perfume will be going on their first overseas tour across Asia. The tour will accompany their latest release slated to drop in September, Perfume Global Compilation “Love The World”. Sad news for all Versailles Philharmonic Quintet fans. The Visual Kei band announced today that they will be ceasing all activity by the end of 2012. Versailles will release their farewell album on September 26th. Starting November, Versailles will hold their last tour around Japan. They will perform their final farewell concert on December 20th.
Auditions for new members to join anisong group Sea☆A start today, running through till 9th September. Participants from 6 different countries from the South-east Asian region will be able to enter and stand a chance to receive an artist management contract from HoriPro, renowned for having in its stable artistes like Ayase Haruka and Wada Akiko.
The whole audition will conclude in October this year, with the winner making her debut with the group in this year’s Anime Festival Asia in Singapore. Should you be a female of the age of 17-22 and possess singing ability, details of the audition are found here.
After months/years of deliberation, it was finally revealed at a special screening in Shinjuku at the start of this month that the next episode in the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo will finally hit Japanese theaters on 17th November 2012.
In tonight’s All Night Nippon radio show, it was announced by Akimoto Yasushi that Sashihara Rino (who captured the #4 spot in the recent elections) will be transferred to sister group HKT48. It is a direct result of a scandal that broke a few days ago, where she allegedly dated a fan for a length of time. Of course, this is against the rules of the group, and Rino has vehemently denied that it happened. Akimoto has stated that the move will give Sasshi more experience, and a fresh start.

In addition to being broadcast on Japanese television through Fuji TV, the AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo will also be streamed on the internet this year, as announced, on Google+. The broadcast will start at 5:20pm (Japan Standard Time) on 6 June, with the ceremony being shown in full. At 11pm, the winner’s speech will also be live-streamed on YouTube. However, due to Japanese labor laws, in the case that an under-18 member wins the top spot, that broadcast will be from her home instead.
The Tokyo Sky Tree will finally open to the public on 22 May 2012! It was completed in February, after nearly 4 years of construction, but starting tomorrow visitors can finally access and take a ride up the 634 meter tower. Now the tallest structure in Japan (and the second in the whole world), the Tokyo Sky Tree will be a major Tokyo Landmark for decades to come. In addition to providing nationwide digital broadcasting coverage, it will also undoubtedly prove as a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike.
In a post on Google+, producer Akimoto Yasushi spoke a little about his meeting with Maeda Atsuko. With the discussion, it seems that Maeda Atsuko will be slated to graduate by means of the Tokyo Dome concert, and the performance in the AKB48 theater the next day. While the date of the concert itself has not yet been set, it will probably be in the latter half of the year, as per AKB48′s usual concert schedule.
Following last year’s March 11 earthquake, tourism in Japan has taken a hit (but is slowly recovering). For just 10,000 yen, holders of the JR pass will get unlimited travel on all JR local, express and Shinkansen trains for any 3 days within a 10 day period.
At AKB48′s meet the fans session at Shanghai today, it was announced that China will finally start its own ooo48 idol group with Shanghai48! With AKB48′s fleeting success in invading both Shanghai and Hong Kong markets, company ninestyle is missing no chances to hit up a collaboration with AKS to form China’s team of “idols you can meet”. Based on the initials Sha-Ng-Hai, SNH48 will be the China’s version of AKB48!
