Reputed to be Singapore’s best Biryani30 September, 2010 by Chad
Just got back from visiting the Bismillah Biryani Restaurant over at Little India a couple of hours ago. According to the banner in front of the shop, they were ranked among the first page in search results for the search term “best biryani”.
Yan had been craving for Indian food lately. We were joined by Leow YQ of BoredEmployee.com fame.
You can call the owner a diva but being determined to make the best biryani does come at a cost. Guess most people weren’t willing to pay $8 for Biryani in this area, since the shop was practically empty even at dinner time. The only other customers were a couple of Caucasian tourists who were staying at the boarding house opposite of the eatery. A tip, save on accommodation, splurge on food.
Honestly, I’m a bad judge when it comes to Indian cuisine. As mentioned before, I don’t take spiciness well and certainly don’t ever crave for Indian food. But of course I’d still enjoy a good meal.
And the Biryani here was exactly that. The portions were satisfying, the meat tender and the rice was well spiced. Only the curry was a little unusual for my tastes, but the meal was tasty enough without it.
I really enjoyed the homemade lime juice too and was glad to have ordered it. It was refreshing and the perfect balance of sweet and the right kind of sour. Possibly the best lime juice I have ever drank, not the disgusting Chinese kind which has licorice plums inside.
