Arigatou

Though I haven’t been following closely on Ikimono Gakari’s new releases, the group has actually been actively churning out new singles and albums in the past 2 years. Released on 5th of May this year, is Ikimono Gakari’s 18th single Arigatou (ありがとう). While often touted as a pop-rock band, they make surprisingly good ballads. This is yet another of their soulful ballads and I was already liking it after just listening to it once.

In terms of weekly sales, Arigatou snagged a #2 which is currently their highest rank among all previous singles. Given that their last single, Nostalgia was only released less than 2 months ago it seems like they are really churning out songs like pancakes. Hopefully in their haste, their music quality will not drop.

The single is also the theme song for the 82nd NHK Asadora, Gegege no Nyobo. The story is based on the 2008 autobiography by Mura Nunoe, the wife of Gegege no Kitaro mangaka Mizuki Shigeru. Personally, I’m not a fan of year long dramas but interested readers could get a little bit more information over here.
