Japan's biggest pop sensation invades Singapore 11 July, 2010 by Sho
Update: Check out our detailed coverage of AKB48′s first appearance in South East Asia here.
AKB48 have just announced that they will be coming to Singapore for their first concert this November!
Fans speculate that they might be performing as guest at this year’s Anime Festival Asia (AFA). Additionally, they will also be holding concerts in Milan and Macau. The announcement can be found on their official blog here.
As with other overseas trips, it is most likely that only a select few girls will be brought over. But here’s to hoping there will be a full concert. Either way, fans will benefit since smaller events usually mean the opportunity for autographs. Here’s to dreaming that we will be getting press passes.
With the meager number of local fans, the decision to perform in Singapore is definitely a curious one and some kind event tie in seems to be the most plausible reason. Perhaps also this is a demonstration or test of market for Singapore’s own 48 group that was revealed earlier this year? Rather than fans, we can probably expect a larger showing of creepy uncles like those at the recent Cosfest 2010.
At the same time today, the management also revealed the formation of a new Osaka based 48 group, Namba48. More updates as soon as I get them.
