AKB48 Cheer Guide: Singles

Detailed cheer guide for all AKB48 singles

07 June, 2011 by

As part of an ongoing attempt to record down some concert knowledge in English, I’ll be providing a list of cheers for all AKB48 songs. To stay sane though, I’ll be splitting up the songs into different categories and staggering releases, the first being this full list of single song cheers. Will decide whether to continue depending on how well received it is.

Due to the very nature of concert cheers, do not take this as a definitive guide but rather an indication of possible cheers. I hope this list will help inspire people to come up with their own original chants. Also, do help to point out any errors or other possible variants.

To understand this guide, you should already have a basic knowledge of the Mix (ミックス) and Member Calls (メンバーコール). If not you can refer to our previous two guides. To keep the guide abridged here are some additional things to take note.

Shouts & Whistles: There are two other basic calls, which for the purpose of this document has been simplified to Hais and Fuus/Woos. These are just the various exclamations and whistles which are inserted at particular timings of each song. The number of exclamation marks and dashes in the guide below helps to suggest the speed of which they are executed.

PPPH: The name of a particular wotagei move. In simple terms, this refers to a Clap! Clap-clap! (two half beat claps) and a Fuu!. Depending on the venue (i.e. theater) or mood of the song, the “Fuu!” may sometimes be omitted and the clapping may extend for the entire section of the song. It is also often replaced by a repeated member name call. Use at own discretion

Finally, the most important part. The disclaimer. The following song lyrics are used with permission from Studio48. While I don’t really care what you do with the cheers, please do not reproduce their lyrics elsewhere without permission/crediting the source. Studio48 remains the internet’s best source of AKB48 lyrics, do support them. You’ll be able to find singer color guides and English translations there too, which I’ve stripped from the ones here.

Edit: We now also have the AKB48 Cheer Guide: B-Sides.
